The Precursors

In designing LINA, we worked hard to combine the strengths of existing cross-platform solutions while avoiding their drawbacks.

To that end, we based LINA on the most robust and complete of the solutions shown on the chart – the virtual operating system. Like traditional virtualization solutions from companies such as VMWare, Parallels and Xen, LINA provides a complete operating system. LINA runs as a guest on the user's host. This guarantees that all applications written for LINA's minimal Linux operating system run as expected on any operating system LINA is installed on.
 
LINA goes beyond the standard virtual operating system, with significant modifications that integrate applications running on LINA so that they appear to run natively on the host.
