[edit] Downloading a LINA application
First, make sure LINA is installed by following the instructions here. Then download an application to your desktop from www.openlina.org/apps.html. Our sample application for this beta release is the simple command-line text editor Nano. In the coming weeks we will make a number of other applications available.
[edit] Installing a LINA application on Windows
To install Nano on windows, first make sure you have Administrator privileges if your version of Windows requires them for installing software. If you are running Vista, right-click on the installer icon and select "Run as administrator". Otherwise, double-click on the installer icon.
First, the welcome page will appear:
Click "Continue" and the license page will appear:
Click "Accept" and the directory page will appear. Choose a location (the default should be fine).
The install process should begin. This currently takes a few minutes.
The install is now finished, and the finish screen should appear:
[edit] Running a LINA application on Windows
To run Nano, open a command window and cd to the directory that nano was installed to. Then cd into the "bin" directory. In this directory type .\nano.exe, as shown below.
The Nano text editor should appear, as shown:
Note: Fast starts are not enabled in this build. As a result, it can take up to a few minutes for nano to appear, since it is the first LINA program being started. This will be fixed in the next beta and the first program will start within a few seconds.
[edit] Giving us feedback
Thank you for helping us test this beta release. It helps us immensely to know that LINA and LINA applications can be installed on machines in the wild.
If you encountered any errors during your install, please post them on the Open LINA forum located at http://openlina.org/forum/ or to the Open LINA mailing list located at http://openlina.org/mailman/listinfo/lina-dev/.
If something fails to work, we would greatly appreciate receiving your lina.log file located on your computer in the C:\Program Files\Lina Software\Lina Runtime Environment\log directory.
