[edit] Introduction

Over the next week, we will be testing a series of beta releases leading up to the official LINA 0.72 release. Any feedback you give us about your experience downloading, installing and running our beta versions of LINA will be of great use to us, and much appreciated.

[edit] Installation Notes

For the LINA 0.72Beta02 release, it is necessary to not have CYGWIN running during any part of the test. LINA has a dependency on openssh which uses the CYGWIN dlls and only one CYGWIN dll can be loaded at a time.

[edit] Supported Windows operating systems

LINA 0.72 Beta02 is available for the following Windows operating systems:

  • Windows Vista
  • Windows XP
  • Windows 2000
  • Windows 2003

[edit] Download

First download the appropriate LINA installer to your desktop from our download page.

[edit] Installing LINA - the short version

To install LINA on Windows, first make sure you have Administrator privileges if your version of Windows requires them for installing software. If you are running Vista, right-click on the installer icon and select "Run as administrator". Otherwise, double-click on the installer icon.

Click through the installer windows.

The LINA install will take some time as is downloads the ~100MB LINA runtime environment. The size of the download will be greatly reduced by the time of our next major release.

The install might appear to freeze at one point as it is setting up LINA. Please be patient with it, maybe get some coffee or something. This feature will be removed in the official 0.72 release.

Once LINA is installed, you are ready to install a LINA application.

The default path should be fine. Click "Next" and the install will begin.

The LINA install will take some time because it downloads the ~100MB LINA runtime environment. We will make this download much shorter before the 0.90 release.

The install might appear to freeze at one point as it is setting up LINA. Please enjoy this opportunity to take a break from installing LINA. We will remove this feature before the official 0.72 release.

[edit] Giving us feedback

Thank you for helping us test this beta release. It helps us immensely to know that LINA and LINA applications can be installed on machines in the wild.

If you encountered any errors during your install, please post them on the Open LINA forum located at www.openlina.org/forum/ or to the Open LINA mailing list located at [www.openlina.org/mailman/listinfo/lina-dev/].

If something fails to work, we would greatly appreciate receiving your lina.log file located on your computer in the C:\Program Files\Lina Software\Lina Runtime Environment\log directory.
